Do I need a primer for this color?
Some colors, especially yellows, reds and oranges, and other dark accent colors, are considered to be “poor hiding” colors. That means they usually need a primer because, despite their strong, vibrant color, they’re not good at hiding the color they’re covering.
Using a grey (under dark colors) or tinted (under light colors) primer can help you avoid having to apply multiple coats of paint. A tinted primer helps prepare the existing surface for color. You’ll typically only need to apply two coats of paint over tinted primer to get that perfect result. ECOS colors that benefit from additional coats or a tinted primer are marked in our color library (select Fan Deck View) with a roller icon

Please note: this guidance is specifically related to color selection. We recommend using one of our primers if painting over a higher gloss finish, a darker color, or applying an accent color, or if applying over bare or heavily sanded surfaces.
Painting Tips to Improve “Hide"

- Use the correct primer as described above, or when you’re applying paint over a porous surface.

- Allow the full drying time between coats.
- Use high-quality brushes, rollers, and tools.

EMR & EMF blocking paint contains specialized conductive materials to aid in shielding against low-frequency electrical fields. EMF blocking paint will guard against cellular & WiFi signals, 5g, and other electromagnetic frequencies. ECOS Interior EMR Shielding Paint uses a water base with a high-quality nickel pigment, to provide superior shielding results compared with carbon-based shielding paints. The nickel has excellent corrosion resistance, and provides shielding against EMF & RF frequencies and electromagnetic EMR radiation.
With one coat, power attenuation of 30.6 dB (99.9%) is achieved, rising to 45dB (99.99%) with two coats. ECOS EMR Shielding Paint, made in the USA, has exceptional coverage of 550 sq. ft. per gallon, compared with carbon-based shielding paints that only cover around 300 sq. ft. per gallon. ECOS covers up to 80% more wall area!
Having a dark grey color, it is intended to be over-painted by ECOS wall paint. ECOS EMF blocking paint is suitable for use on primed walls, floors, and ceilings. Not only does it help protect against harmful radiation, it is zero VOC1 and has no odor2.

- ✔ No Odor2
- 1Conforms to CDPH 01350 (VOC emissions test taken at 14 days).

|Preparation||Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of grease. Remove all loose and flaking material and, if previously wallpapered, remove all traces of paste and size. Prime bare plaster with ECOS Plaster Sealer, and bare sheetrock, with ECOS Wall Primer. This product can be painted directly onto wallpaper but this is not recommended as the product is intended to be a permanent structural feature. WARNING: Older buildings may contain lead-based paint, which requires professional remediation if it is disturbed. If in doubt, consult with a professional from a Lead-Safe Certified Firm.|
|Application and Clean Up||READ ALL APPLICATION NOTES BEFORE COMMENCING. Do not thin. Stir gently and thoroughly before use. Apply in two medium coats with a 6 - 9" foam or short pile gloss roller, ensure the first coat is fully dry before re-coating (minimum of four hours). Normally touch dry in 1-2 hours. Avoid temperatures below 41°F (5°C) and above 68°F (20°C). Once the EMR Shielding Paint is dry it can be finished by over-coating with any of our wall paints and, once earthed, the shielding paint is activated against both high and low frequency radiation. We recommend using the Grounding Kit when applying EMR Shielding Paint. See the accompanying notes for instructions on how to install.|
