An Unbelievable 22 Room Painted Birdhouse Makeover

ECOS 11/19/2015

We always enjoy featuring interesting customer projects, and this one is really impressive – an unbelievable 22 room painted birdhouse makeover as big as a doghouse for Eastern Purple Martins in Wilbraham, MA. Danielle Desmarais contacted us and explained her wonderful project. She had grown up near this birdhouse, and it was her favorite thing about the park. She had many happy memories of Girl Scout projects involving the birdhouse. As an adult, she left her hometown for nine years and saw on returning that the birdhouse was in poor shape. The roof had caved in, it was overgrown with plants, and it was no longer habitable for the birds.

Danielle took it upon herself to get a new birdhouse built by a local woodworker that would be in a better location away from vegetation, and she asked ECOS Paints if we would donate the paint for the project. Danielle wrote to us, “I did endless research on zero-VOC paints* and your brand's came out as the best. I am heading a birdhouse rebuild project and want to attract Purple Martins with white paint and blue trim to have the house look historical. The last thing I would want it to have a birdhouse that has paint chips that are toxic to the birds!” We were more than happy to make a contribution of ECOS Exterior Semi-Gloss Trim and Furniture Paint and thank her for letting us be involved! You'll see in the pictures below how wonderful the finished birdhouse/apartment is!

This story is inspiring on so many levels – Danielle wanted to help the birds, re-create a historically significant structure in the community, and use non-toxic** paints in the construction. Our hats off to you Danielle! To see all the details of how hard Danielle worked to get this built check out her Birdhouse Rebuild Project blog.
