Aqua/Brown/Orange Boy's Nursery

We’re creeping up on the end of the year and that means looking back at the trends of 2012 and looking forward to what will inspire us in 2013. If you’re considering painting in the coming months, check out our roundup of color trends to help you find the perfect, savvy shade of paint for every room in your home.

Overall Favorites

According to The House Beautiful 2012 Color Report, most people love blue and orange, designers say purple is hot, and green is a rising star.

If you’re looking for full palette trends, Pantone is the industry forecaster and their 2013 lineup includes Connoisseur (cool neutrals contrasted with warmer tones of violet - similar to Lullaby Paint’s Hush Little Baby collection) and New Old School (intense contrasting colors commonly found in flags and school uniforms - similar to Lullaby’s Old King Cole collection).

Room-by-Room Recommendations

  • Kitchen: Yellow kitchens win out - with white coming in as a close second - in the House Beautiful report. Try Lullaby Paints’ Star Light which is the best of both worlds! Happy yellow with calming creamy undertones.
  • Bathroom: Better Homes and Gardens suggests turning your bathroom into a personal spa with soft blue or green paint. Lullaby’s Azure Sea is the perfect tranquil tone to evoke the peacefulness of a seaside spa.
  • Bedroom: Readers and designers from House Beautiful chose blue as their calming color of choice. Try Lullaby’s French Blue for a temperate, subtle space or Royal Blue to make a dramatic statement.
  • Dining Room: House Beautiful designers prefer red, but green is the recommended hue of Debbie Zimmer, color expert at the Paint Quality Institute. Try Lullaby’s King’s Red for a more formal space or Citron for a modern pop of color.
  • Living Room: Go bright and white, say the House Beautiful designers! Lullaby’s Alabaster draws from the natural beauty of the stone of the same name, but maybe you’d prefer Snowy Fleece or Dawn Mist? (Who knew there could be so many whites?)
  • Nursery: Can you believe no one mentioned nursery color trends? Maybe we should help them out with a survey of our own (you’re all trendsetters, right?)

So, let us know - what color is your baby’s nursery?
