The Best Eco-Friendly Baby Products for New Parents
One of the biggest challenges of being an eco-concious new parent is deciding which products are the best picks for starting baby on the right (read: non-toxic) track. In order to help new parents with this task, we rounded up eleven of the best eco-friendly baby products for new parents, from mattresses to baby food to diaper bags and more! Plus, we're doing a giveaway to help get your eco-friendly nursery in tip-top shape!
#1 Crib mattress: Newton Rest Crib Mattress
The baby mattress got the number one spot on our list, because it's of absolute importance that childrens' mattresses be non-toxic. Think of how many hours your wee one will spend in direct contact with it! This mattress boasts many pediatrician recommendations. The breathable design significantly reduces the risk of suffocation, while improved air circulation prevents sweaty backs and overheating. In addition, it's completely washable for the highest level of hygiene. And the mattress contains no foam, latex, springs, glue, or allergens - AND is 100% recyclable. A definite winner in our book!
#2 Swaddling blankets: Aden + Anais Warrior Finn Organic Swaddles
Aden + Anais organic swaddles are made from GOTS certified organic cotton thread grown in an environmentally and socially responsible way. With its comforting breathability and touchable softness, the organic swaddle is perfect for all of your round-the-clock baby rituals, as it can also be used as a stroller cover, burp cloth, nursing cover, and more. This organic version of the company's blankets is somehow even softer than the original!
#3 Diapers: The Honest Company Diapers
The Honest Company's ultra absorbent, eco-friendly diapers are made with naturally derived, plant-based, and sustainable materials. They're über soft, hypoallergenic, free of chlorine processing and additives (like fragrances, lotions, and latex). Oh, and did we mention how adorable they are? The ridiculously cute designs made these diapers stand out amongst the green-diaper crowd.
#4 Diaper Bag: Lässig Green Label Diaper Bag
What diaper bag? You'll have a hard time convincing the other moms at the playground that this bag is made for your baby's gear. The chic chambray and pop of lime green feel fresh, plus it's made entirely of recycled plastic bottles. This shoulder tote comes with a host of accessories, including a removable pouch for keys and cash, an insulated bottle holder, and a built-in wet bag for damp or dirty clothing.
#5 Baby food: Happy Baby Organics Clearly Crafted Baby Food
Happy Baby organic baby food features clear packaging, so you can really see what's inside. Their recipes are made with wholesome organic fruit and oat purees for vibrant flavor and super nutrition. No added sugars, artificial colors, or synthetic flavors in these bad boys. The food is developed for babies aged 6 months+, but they're great for any little one exploring the world of solid foods.
#6 Snack bags: Itzy Ritzy Reusable Snack Bags
One of the easiest ways to go green as a new parent is investing in some reusable snack bags. There's nothing like knowing your days of using plastic ziploc snack bags are over for good! Plus, these snack bags come in ridiculously cute patterns, sure to make snack time an even bigger hit.
#7 Security blanket: Apple Park Organic Blankies and Lovies
These security blankets from Apple Park are sure to become a constant companion for your young one on all of their adventures. Kids who are tactile will enjoy the mix of textures, and parents will find comfort knowing their child's favorite companion is 100% organic and natural.
#8 Bottles: Natursutten Glass Baby Bottles
These bottles are made in France of borosilicate glass, which is dishwasher-safe and thermal shock-resistant (meaning they withstand extreme temperature changes, like boiling or freezing). The nipples are made of all-natural rubber and are free of harmful chemicals. Its natural softness creates a feeding experience more like breastfeeding, and the anti-colic double-valve helps prevent colic and gas. Glass bottles are truly the safer choice, since harmful chemicals can leach from even BPA-free plastic bottles.
#9 Teether: ChewBeads Non-Toxic Teething Necklaces
Lisa Greenwald, founder of Chewbeads, is proud to have designed soft, non-toxic baby jewelry for both genders. The beads are colorful and cute, and above all, safe. Dishwasher safe, 100% silicone with no BPA, phthalates, lead, or other harmful chemicals means this teether is a must for new parents seeking the healthiest products for baby. And as a bonus, the teether stays around baby's neck, so it's always on hand!
#10 Creams and Lotions: Weleda Natural and Sustainable Baby Lotions
Weleda takes the cake for natural and sustainable baby products, especially for babies with extra-sensitive skin. In the ingredients list of Weleda products, you will find flowers and herbs, fruit extracts, clays, roots, minerals, and more. Weleda takes their all-natural and sustainable promise very seriously, and it shows in the superb quality of their products. We love Weleda's Diaper rash duo, with natural anti-inflammatory properties.
